Plantbot: Because The Happening wasn’t creepy enough

October 20th, 2008 by Mark R in Conceptual Gadgets, Eco Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets

I just rented The Happening last night, and found M. Night Shyamalan’s lastest offering didn’t completely suck, but it wasn’t all that great. I’m spoiling nothing in saying that the plot involves a plants in the northeastern United States suddenly giving off chemicals that cause people to spontaneously commit suicide.

I only bring this up because the premise of the film is as creepy and ridiculous as this next gadget, the Plantbot. What you are seeing there in the photo is true, the Plantbot is a plant with legs.

And those legs are made for walking, and that’s just what they’ll do! However, they are not designed to walk all over you, but to walk wherever there is sunlight. Apparently there is some sort of solar cell that allows it to detect where the sun is and walk to it. This will prolong your plant’s life as it receives its daily dose of healthy rays.

So far, the Plantbot looks only to be a design for now. The official site has no price or availability date.

Well, perhaps the Plantbots will appear in the sequel to The Happening, where the plants take more drastic measures to wipe out humanity, War of the Worlds style. Then again, the film was practically an imitation of that Cruise/Spielberg flick anyway.

This thing would have to compete with my cat for the spot of sunshine that moves across the living room floor every day.
