Blaupunkt and miRoamer create World’s First Internet Car Radio
I have been seeing more and more Internet radios on the market these days, and I suppose that it was only a matter of time before someone invented one for the car. At CES, miRoamer, a popular Internet radio site, and Blaupunkt, a leader in automotive multimedia, introduced the world’s first Internet radio for the car.
I know that I have said this before, but I always get suspicious when I hear the words “world’s first” applied to any technological product. Usually, those words mean that “someone else actually did it first, but we are the first to really market it”. However, most of the other Internet radio makers at CES seemed genuinely surprised at the release of miRoamer and Blaupunket’s product, and they all asked the same question: How is an automotive web-connection achieved?
Yes, the Internet Car Radio cannot work on its own, but requires a 3G or GSM phone to be connected via Bluetooth in order to access the Internet. From there, the user is able to access radio stations from miRoamer, which allows the user tens of thousands of music, entertainment, news, and talk stations.
The large screen display allows for easy interface with the many station options, and it includes other features including access to the phone, address book, Bluetooth, not to mention navigation.
So, is the beginning of a new age of Internet radio? I don’t see why not. I think we’ve done all we can with Sirius and XM, so the Internet is really the only other way to go with automotive radio.

Thanks for the great content and information. I am always going through the internet searching for good content and to also get ideas for my home based business web sites and future articles on this basic and general subject. Again, thanks for the great content and I will be coming back to revisit this site again for more information in the near future.

Now we do like this! This is the first new product that I have read about in the past month that actually will add value and is not just a mass distribution of new products that are defunct before you unpack them. I would be interested to hear how this actually performs over a period of time and what the purchase price will be? I would also expect that this machine could be used in the home if one chooses. Internet Radio!!!! I am looking forward to this.

I think this is brilliant. Is able to be used in the home when not in the car? Also a silly question, where we live the cost of internet is still relatively high, when will the cost of this medium be reduced to allow for multiple time use.

I am interested, yet I must ask about the quality of the streaming, is or will be on the radio. My experience in home based e-radio is at times good, yet others the streaming renders the radio ineffective. I do not question the quality of workmanship and or capabilities of Blaupunkt machinery, however, the internet medium is another issue that must be considered before buying this potentially fabulous gadget for the vehicle.

I have used an internet radio in my car just recently but there seemed to be some distortion in the reception I was receiving probably due to my internet speed may be.

I am glad these have been released, you should be able to get many more stations than a DAB radio for example - anyone who much they will cost?

It sounds super and Blaupunkt is a great brand so it got to work. I live in a poor reception area will this affect the quality, the fidelity let me know as I interested.

I’m an internet radio user and with the internet radio that Blaupunkt and miRoamer produced, this would make it more ubiquitous. The only issue I see is that I need to hook it up with my mobile phone to be able to access the Internet. Blaupunkt and miRoamer must come up with a model that could stand alone.

I agree with Edmonton, hopefully there would be a stand alone gadget in the car that does not need to be hooked up with a phone. I guess Ford and Toyota is developing this car internet technology and hopefully will come out next year.
