With regards to gadgets there’s only 2 things better than buying your own

1. Being given a gadget
2. Making your own gizmo

The book Gonzo Gizmos is all about the latter with projects like

• A rotary steam engine from a candle, a soda can, a length of copper tubing
• A hot dog roaster that only needs just a flexible plastic mirror, a wooden box, a sunny day, and algebra
• Levitating magnets

Looks like our cool clocks section will fill up quite quickly with the second entry this week being a levitating clock from Think Geek.

The levitating clock uses the force* to float an LCD clock inside a funny looking base. It also features an auto-rotate mechanism to spin objects clockwise, or counter-clockwise (as well as the clock you can buy an optional floating space shuttle).

I think this is probably best used as a cool executive desk toy rather than an alarm clock, as I can imagine sleepy fingers moving the clock a bit too much when going for that snooze button (then again the crashing noise may really wake you up).

Is it magic, gravity, or a new technology that allows this globe to levitate in mid-air? All of your friends and colleagues will be wondering the same when they see this levitating globe in your dorm room or on your desk at work.

If you remember watching the Pink Panther movie and Inspector Clouseau, you are sure to remember the scene where Inspector Clouseau placed his hand on a spinning globe and fell to the floor. Well, this will not happen with your exciting globe. Everyone will be in too much awe to even consider leaning on the globe. However, they will be curious enough to try to figure out how it stays there and rotates. You will see them moving their hands all around the globe trying their best to cause the globe to fall to the floor.
